The American Society for Industrial Security, International, founded in 1955, is the largest international security organization in the world with over 34,000 professional security members. Members serve to protect personnel, facility and information resources in commerce, industry, local and federal governments from 'Airlines to Zoos'.

 

The Society, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, is led by an elected, international Officers, Trustees and Board of Directors composed of security profession practitioners. Ten Directors provide management and control of property, business and Society affairs. Thirty-four U.S. and international Regional Vice Presidents provide guidance and direction to 32 specialized Committees and Councils composed of highly experienced security professionals and other management functions as directed.

 

Committees and councils include Academic ImagePrograms, Banking and Financial, Cable/Satellite, Commercial Real Estate, Computer Security, Business Practices, Crime/Loss Prevention, Disaster Management, Economic Crime, Educational Institutions, Energy Security, Fire Prevention/Safety, Gaming & Wagering, Global Terrorism, Government Industry, Healthcare, Hospitality, Insurance Fraud, Investigations, Law Enforcement Liaison, Museum/Library/and Cultural Porperties, Physical Security, Privacy & Personnel Information Management, Private Security, Public Policy, Retail Security, Safeguarding Proprietary Information, Security Architecture, Telecommunications, Transportation, Utilities Security and Workplace Substance Abuse and Illicit Drugs.

 

An elected 13 member ASIS Professional Certification Board manages policy and certification of security professionals through examinations, education, and experience qualifications. Over 6,000 security professionals have earned this highly prized designation. Examination areas include Emergency Planning, Investigations, Legal Aspects, Personnel Security, Physical Security, Protection of Sensitive Information, Security Management. Examinations are conducted in the U.S., internationally and by computer-based services.

 

ImageA fulltime, Headquarters staff manages membership processing and directories, leadership education, industry policy guidelines, publications that include the monthly Security Management magazine and the security buyers guide, job placement services, a customer service center, online and onsite training workshops with a professional library of security books available via mail, legislative liaison, and ASIS Foundation activities with a multitude of other services to members. The Annual Seminar and Exhibits is the largest security event in the world and attracts tens of thousands of professionals and visitors. Smaller events are presented at various international locations annually.
